A Simulation Model for Analysing Terminal Management Operations
نویسنده
چکیده
Globally, container terminals are trying to expand capacity and increase performance at a minimum of investments. Often the container terminal operations are changing to meet increased customer demands as well as to adapt to new technologies. This paper proposes a simulation model for container terminal system analysis. A simulation model is developed, called SIMPORT, which uses a Multi-Agents Systems approach that provides a modular and scalable method of modeling the entities in the container terminal domain. SIMPORT is used to test various berth assignment management polices and yard stacking management policies in the context of a case study of a major container terminal in India. The results indicate that by arranging the stacks according the ‘ship profile’, the port in India was able to reduce the waiting time of container ships and thus save costs. The increasing costs of container terminal development do justify the use of computer simulation to assist in planning and policy making.

An integrated simulation-DEA approach to multi-criteria ranking of scenarios for execution of operations in a construction project
The purpose of this study is to examine different scenarios for implementing operations in the pre-construction phase of a project, based on several competing criteria with different importance levels in order to achieve a more efficient execution plan. This paper presents a new framework that integrates discrete event simulation (DES) and data envelopment analysis (DEA) to rank different scena...
متن کاملA New Approach for Sequencing Loading and Unloading Operations in the Seaside Area of a Container Terminal
Due to the considerable growth in the worldwide container transportation, optimization of container terminal operations is becoming highly needed to rationalize the use of logistics resources. For this reason, we focus our study on the Quay Crane Scheduling Problem (QCSP), which is a core task of managing maritime container terminals. From this planning problem arise two decisions to be made: T...
متن کاملA Simulation Model for Optimization of the Internal Handling Fleet Size at Shahid Rajaee Container Port Based on Performance Evaluation
The dramatic increasing of sea-freight container transportations and the developing trend for using containers in the multimodal handling systems through the sea, rail, road and land in the present market cause some challenges to the general managers of container terminals such as increasing demand, competitive situation, new investments and expansion of new activities and the need to use new m...
متن کاملSemi-parametric Quantile Regression for Analysing Continuous Longitudinal Responses
Recently, quantile regression (QR) models are often applied for longitudinal data analysis. When the distribution of responses seems to be skew and asymmetric due to outliers and heavy-tails, QR models may work suitably. In this paper, a semi-parametric quantile regression model is developed for analysing continuous longitudinal responses. The error term's distribution is assumed to be Asymmetr...
متن کاملSimulation for the Evaluation of Optimised Operations Policies in a Container Terminal
A simulation model must be used to evaluate the impact of new operations policies, not only to validate the policies, but also as a tool to convince the decision-makers of the potential advantages in adopting the proposed enhancements in the management. Terminal resource allocation policies and ship loading/unloading policies are obtained by means of Operations Research techniques for the case ...
